USTDA Advances Standards and Conformity Assessment Processes in India
September 25, 2017
(USTDA)
Arlington, Virginia – Today, the U.S. Trade
and Development Agency awarded a grant to the
Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), a
nonprofit business association in India. The
grant supports six standards and conformance
workshops in India for three sectors vital to
U.S.-India trade: smart and sustainable
cities, water and sanitation, and clean
energy.
The workshops will be conducted by the American
National Standards Institute (ANSI)
(Washington, D.C.), an organization whose
mission is to enhance U.S. global
competitiveness by promoting and facilitating
voluntary consensus standards and conformity
assessment systems and safeguarding their
integrity.
This project supports the second phase of the
U.S.-India Standards and Conformance
Cooperation Program (SCCP), which provides a
platform for the U.S. and Indian public and
private sectors to collaborate on the
development of standards and conformity
assessment practices in India. This phase
responds to U.S. industry interest in expanding
trade-related standards cooperation.
“USTDA is pleased to continue working with
CII and ANSI to promote a strong trade
relationship between the U.S. and India,”
said Henry Steingass, USTDA’s Regional
Director for South and Southeast Asia. “We
believe our cooperation will create market
access for U.S. businesses looking to work in
India.”
U.S. companies interested in participating in
the workshops should reach out to ANSI at intl@ansi.org.
