U.S. Grant Supports Safety and Transportation Infrastructure in Indonesia
September 15, 2011
(USTDA)
Indonesia’s state owned rail company, to develop a new strategic plan and
specific system recommendations for upgrading its rail signaling and
telecommunications systems.
The $593,954 grant, signed by U.S. Ambassador Scot Marciel and PT KAI President
Director Ignasius Jonan in Bandung, Indonesia, will fund a technical assistance
program that includes a review of existing rail transport corridors,
recommendations for systems upgrades, and training workshops for capacity
building for PT KAI rail operators and managers. The technical assistance is
designed to support PT KAI’s planned expansion to meet greater rail demand,
while ensuring the safety of the rail network.
The grant demonstrates the U.S. government's broad commitment to support
Indonesia’s efforts to improve its transportation infrastructure. Furthering
this goal, this fall USTDA will sponsor a visit by Indonesian aviation safety
officials to the United States to visit air traffic operations centers and meet
with U.S. companies who provide the technologies used to safely and effectively
manage air traffic. These activities will open opportunities for U.S. businesses
to become actively involved in Indonesia’s dynamic and growing aviation and rail
industries.
The United States is pleased to provide the technical assistance support for
Indonesia’s National Railway Master Plan," stated Ambassador Marciel. "U.S.
companies are eager to work and invest in Indonesia’s growing economic market
and this grant will assist in facilitating that relationship."
Following the grant signing, PT KAI will select a U.S. contractor to complete
the technical assistance. The opportunity to conduct the USTDA-funded technical
assistance activity will be competed on the Federal Business Opportunities (FBO)
website. A link to the FBO announcement will be posted to USTDA's website at
www.ustda.gov. Interested U.S. firms should submit proposals according to the
instructions in the FBO announcement.
