(USTDA)
MÉRIDA, Mexico – U.S. Trade and Development
Agency Regional Director Nathan Younge chaired
the “Financing Energy Projects and Promoting
Private Investment” roundtable as part of the
Second Ministerial Meeting of the Energy and
Climate Partnership of the Americas (ECPA) that
began Monday in Mérida, Mexico. U.S. Secretary
of Energy Dr. Ernest Moniz is leading the U.S.
government delegation to the EPCA Ministerial
Meeting. As chair of the Finance roundtable,
Mr. Younge facilitated a discussion of key
issues and challenges for attracting financing
and investment capital to the region.
“USTDA’s participation in the Finance
roundtable at the ECPA Ministerial builds upon
the Agency’s extensive support for energy
infrastructure projects in Latin America and
the Caribbean,” said Regional Director Younge.
“The Ministerial provided a venue for USTDA to
explore new opportunities for collaboration
with respect to a variety of clean energy
technologies and highlight the importance of
utilizing early project planning tools such as
feasibility studies, technical assistance and
technology pilots in the development of such
projects.”
The ECPA meeting follows President Obama’s announcement
last month of the Clean Energy Finance Facility
for the Caribbean and Central America. The $20
million facility will draw upon the expertise
of the USTDA, among other U.S. government
agencies, to catalyze increased investment in
clean energy projects in the region.
