(USTDA) Arlington, VA - The U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) signed a nearly $900,000 grant Monday, advancing smart city development in Amman, Jordan in partnership with the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM). USTDA is funding technical assistance to develop a comprehensive ten-year Smart City Roadmap to enhance city operations, public services and citizens’ quality of life by harnessing innovations in information and communication technology. The grant will also support the implementation of a Traffic Monitoring Platform Project to reduce traffic in Amman.

Since 2004, Amman’s population has doubled to over 4 million residents and GAM is working to develop infrastructure to accommodate this rapid growth.

“USTDA is pleased to partner with GAM on its smart cities development goals,” said USTDA Director of Congressional and Public Affairs Thomas Hardy. “This project will also connect U.S. companies to new project opportunities in Jordan.”

Mayor of Amman Dr. Yousef Shawarbeh stated: “Amman Municipality is proud to partner with USTDA to achieve the goal of developing the Smart City in Amman.”

“The U.S. Embassy in Jordan is excited to partner with GAM and USTDA on a nearly $900,000 grant to help alleviate traffic congestion in Amman,” said U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Paul Malik.

U.S. businesses interested in submitting proposals for this USTDA-funded technical assistance should visit the Federal Business Opportunities (FBO) website at www.fbo.gov. A link to the FBO announcement will be posted to USTDA’s website at https://www.ustda.gov/business-opportunities.
