USTDA Helps Strengthen Rail Maintenance Practices in Indonesia

September 2, 2016

(USTDA) JAKARTA, Indonesia – Today, the U.S. Trade and Development Agency awarded a grant to PT Kereta Api Indonesia (PT KAI), a state-owned railway company in Indonesia, to support their efforts to develop a comprehensive rail maintenance program.

“This grant demonstrates the U.S. government’s commitment to supporting Indonesia’s efforts to improve its transportation infrastructure,” said Brian McFeeters, Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta, who signed the grant on behalf of the Agency. “U.S. companies are eager to participate in Indonesia’s growing market and this project will help build those relationships.”

The technical assistance will include a review of PT KAI’s existing track maintenance practices and standards. It will recommend changes to improve track conditions, increase maximum train speeds, and enhance overall safety. The project will also develop the financial justification for expanding rail maintenance programs, including rail-grinding practices proven successful in the United States.

The opportunity to conduct this USTDA-sponsored technical assistance will be competed through Federal Business Opportunities (FBO). A link to the FBO announcement will be posted to USTDA’s website at www.ustda.gov. Interested U.S. firms should submit proposals according to the instructions in the FBO announcement.
